I went back to the drawing board and asked myself what makes something convenient and versatile. Convenient to me at the time meant something simple- common spices you find in almost every home. Finding versatility was a tad trickier. Then it hit me- I started this to make a seasoning my son would love, yet I’ve been through all this trial and error without ever asking HIM for input. That’s when the game changed!

I took 10 common spices I kept in my kitchen since before I ever started making rubs, and had my son smell and taste each one. When all was said and done, he had given me 5 thumbs up, and 5 thumbs down. From there is was just a matter of mixing the right amount of each spice to deliver a flavor he couldn’t turn down. Once I dialed it in and he and I both liked the flavor, I started using it on almost everything I made for him- steak, burgers, broccoli, asparagus, chili, tacos, mashed potatoes, popcorn and even ice cream (ok…that last one didn’t pan out too well 😊). Every time he cleaned his plate and wanted seconds! I had finally unlocked the parenting hack of a lifetime! And bonus: NO SUGAR! So you don’t have to worry about spoiling your diet or sugar-primed kiddos.

I’ve tested this seasoning out with nieces and nephews, my friends’ kids, the children of coworkers and beyond.
